What tear trough filler does
A small amount of filler is placed deep under the hollow, not into the thin skin at the surface.
The skin under the eye is thin and unforgiving, which is why this treatment goes wrong more often than any other.
Recovery after tear trough filler
Bruising is common here and can last a week.
Is tear trough filler right for you?
The under eye is the least forgiving area on the face. Done badly it looks worse than the hollow did, so this is one to be conservative about. Dr Sultan confirms the time in the chair, the recovery and the final fee at your consultation.
It usually suits
- A genuine hollow under the eye rather than a dark pigment
- Skin under the eye that still has decent thickness
- You want a small correction, not a filled face
It is the wrong treatment if
- Dark circles caused by pigment, where filler does nothing
- Puffiness or eye bags, which filler makes worse
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
What tear trough filler is used for
- Facial hollowness
- Cheeks and temples that have flattened are a volume problem, not a skin problem. Tightening does nothing for it.
- Ageing eyes
- Dark circles, a hollow under the eye and a heavy upper lid are three different problems. Treating the wrong one makes the eye look worse.
Treatments that work with tear trough filler
- polynucleotides
- Often the safer first step for thin skin under the eye.
- dermal fillers
- The same family of product, used on the cheek and midface.
- eyelid surgery
- If the problem is excess skin rather than a hollow.
Please read This page describes tear trough filler in general terms. It is not medical advice and it is not a diagnosis. Whether tear trough filler is right for you can only be decided by Dr Sultan after he has examined you. Every procedure carries risks, and he goes through the ones relevant to you at your consultation. If you are unwell, or you are under the care of another doctor, tell him before you book.
Common questions
Will tear trough filler get rid of my dark circles?
Only if the darkness comes from a shadow cast by a hollow. Pigment in the skin will not change.
Is tear trough filler risky?
It carries more risk than most filler sites because of the blood vessels around the eye, which is why anatomical knowledge matters here.
How much is a consultation?
