Why it happens
Heavy earrings worn over years gradually stretch a piercing downward until it splits.
A single pull, from a child or a jumper, can tear a lobe in one go.
Deliberately stretched piercings do not always close on their own once the jewellery is out.

Can I be re-pierced afterwards?
Usually, after about six to eight weeks. Not before, and he will tell you when.
Will there be a scar?
Yes. Removing tissue and closing it leaves a line. It is closed with very fine sutures to keep that line as clean as possible.
How long does it take?
About 45 minutes per ear, under local anaesthetic. Sutures come out in the clinic at five to seven days.
