Why it happens
Hair follicles shrink over successive growth cycles, so each hair grows back finer than the last until it stops.
It is largely inherited, and it runs on its own timetable in each person.
Illness, stress and some medications cause a different kind of shedding, which often recovers on its own.
How you know
- A parting that has widened
- More hair in the brush or the shower than there was
- Scalp visible through hair that used to cover it
If more than one of these sounds like you, that is normal. Most people have two or three things happening at once, which is part of why he assesses before recommending anything.

Common questions about thinning hair
How long before I know if it is working?
Months, and at least three sessions. Anything judged sooner than that is judged too early.
Will it regrow hair I have already lost?
These treatments work on follicles that are still alive. A follicle that has gone is gone, and no injection brings it back.
Is it my own blood?
For platelet-rich plasma, yes. Blood is drawn, spun so the plasma separates, and injected back. Nothing synthetic is added.
