What PRP does
Blood is taken, spun to separate the platelet rich plasma, and that is returned to the skin.
Nothing synthetic is used.
Is PRP right for you?
Your own blood is drawn, spun down, and the plasma injected back. Nothing synthetic goes in. It needs at least three sessions before it is worth judging.
It usually suits
- Skin quality you want improved without a product being added
- Thinning hair at the scalp
- You would rather use your own tissue than a filler
- You can commit to a course
It is the wrong treatment if
- You want a result from one appointment
- You want volume or shape changed
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
What to expect
- 01Before you arrive
- Stop acids, retinol, vitamin C and scrubs a week beforehand.
- 02The consultation
- He goes through your history and photographs the area.
- 03Drawing the blood
- Blood is taken from a vein in your arm, the same as any blood test.
- 04Separating the plasma
- The sample is spun down and the plasma drawn off.
- 05The injections
- The plasma is injected into the treatment area. About an hour from start to finish.
- 06Going home
- Little to no downtime. Most people go straight back to work.
- No showering for 24 hours.
- No hair styling products for 24 to 48 hours if the scalp was treated.
- Leave any other hair or skin treatment for a week.
- Expect a small lump at the injection points for 48 to 72 hours.
- No sauna, hot bath or jacuzzi for 24 hours.
- Stay out of direct sun for 24 hours, then use a broad spectrum SPF 50.
A summary. Dr Sultan emails a full written aftercare sheet after your procedure.
- Same day
- Small lumps at the injection points. Back to normal within 24 hours.
- 48 to 72 hours
- The lumps have settled.
- 3 sessions
- The minimum before there is anything to judge.
- Months
- The change appears gradually over months, not weeks.
- 4 to 6 a year
- The usual maintenance pattern.
What PRP is used for
- Acne scarring
- Acne scarring is improved over a course rather than erased in one appointment. Anyone promising otherwise is not being straight with you.
- Thinning hair
- Hair treatments need a course, and months, before there is anything worth judging. That is the honest timescale.
Treatments that work with PRP
- polynucleotides
- A product rather than your own plasma, with a similar aim.
- Profhilo
- For skin quality across the whole face.
- acne scar treatment
- Sometimes part of a scarring plan.
Please read This page describes PRP in general terms. It is not medical advice and it is not a diagnosis. Whether PRP is right for you can only be decided by Dr Sultan after he has examined you. Every procedure carries risks, and he goes through the ones relevant to you at your consultation. If you are unwell, or you are under the care of another doctor, tell him before you book.
