What anti-wrinkle injections does

Common areas are the forehead, between the brows, around the eyes and the neck.

Dr Sultan treats conservatively. He would rather you returned for more than left unable to move your face.

Is anti-wrinkle injections right for you?

Anti-wrinkle injections work on lines your muscles make. They do very little to a line that is there when your face is still.

It usually suits

  • Lines that appear when you frown, smile or raise your brows
  • Early lines you want to stop deepening
  • You want movement kept, not removed
  • A heavy jaw or a neck band you want softened

It is the wrong treatment if

  • Deep lines that sit there when your face is completely still
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have had a reaction to botulinum toxin before
  • You have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome

What to expect

01Before you arrive
Stop acids, retinol, vitamin C and scrubs a week beforehand. If you take blood thinners, including aspirin or ibuprofen, ask your own doctor whether you can pause them.
02The consultation
He goes through your medical history and what is bothering you, then photographs the area.
03Watching your face move
He asks you to frown, smile and raise your brows. Where the muscle pulls decides where the injection goes.
04The plan
He tells you what the treatment will do and what it will not, before anything is injected.
05The injections
A few seconds each, with a very fine needle. No numbing is needed for most people.
06Straight after
Small red bumps sit at each injection point. They settle within a few hours and are gone by the next day.
  • Do not touch or massage the treated area. Pressing on it can move the product.
  • Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours. Lukewarm water, air dry, no towel.
  • No make-up over the injection points for 12 hours.
  • No retinol, vitamin C or acids for 24 hours.
  • No sauna, hot bath or jacuzzi for 24 hours.
  • No exercise or anything that makes you sweat for 24 hours.
  • Stay out of direct sun for 24 hours, then use a broad spectrum SPF 50 with 5 star UVA protection.

A summary. Dr Sultan emails a full written aftercare sheet after your procedure.

Same day
Small red bumps at each point. Gone within a few hours. Back to normal in about 30 minutes.
3 to 5 days
The effect starts. You notice the muscle is not pulling as hard.
10 to 12 days
The full effect is there. This is the result you have paid for.
12 to 14 days
Follow-up video call. If a top-up is needed he arranges it then.
3 to 4 months
It wears off gradually. Most people book three or four times a year.

What anti-wrinkle injections is used for

Lines and wrinkles
Lines that appear when you move and lines that are there when your face is still are two different problems, and they need two different treatments.
Jawline and double chin
A soft jawline is fat, loose skin, or both. Which of the three it is decides the treatment, and it is not always obvious from the outside.
Ageing eyes
Dark circles, a hollow under the eye and a heavy upper lid are three different problems. Treating the wrong one makes the eye look worse.
Heavy sweating
Sweating far beyond what your body needs to cool itself is a medical condition rather than a cosmetic complaint, and it is treated as one.

Treatments that work with anti-wrinkle injections

dermal fillers
For the lines that are still there when your face is completely still.
hyperhidrosis treatment
The same injection, placed into the sweat glands instead.
Morpheus8
For skin texture, which relaxing a muscle will never change.

Every procedure carries risks, and he goes through the ones relevant to you at your consultation. If you are unwell, or you are under the care of another doctor, tell him before you book.
