What Radiesse does

Diluted and spread across an area, it improves texture and elasticity over the following months.

It works on the neck, face and hands, and on knees, which most clinics do not treat.

Is Radiesse right for you?

Diluted and spread thinly, Radiesse stops being a filler and becomes a collagen treatment. It tightens skin quality rather than adding shape.

It usually suits

  • Crepey skin on the neck, chest or hands
  • Early laxity where surgery would be too much
  • You want your own collagen built rather than volume added
  • You are prepared to wait for it

It is the wrong treatment if

  • You want a hollow filled, where standard filler is the answer
  • You want something reversible, which this is not
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

What to expect

01Before you arrive
Stop acids, retinol, vitamin C and scrubs a week beforehand.
02The consultation
He takes off any make-up, goes through your history and photographs the area.
03Numbing
Numbing cream over the treatment area for 30 to 45 minutes.
04Preparing it
The Radiesse is diluted before it is used. That dilution is what makes it a skin treatment rather than a filler.
05The injections
About 30 minutes, spread across the area.
06Straight after
Small raised areas at the injection points.
  • Expect small bumps for 48 to 72 hours. They settle on their own.
  • Do not touch or massage the treated area. Pressing on it can move the product.
  • Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours. Lukewarm water, air dry, no towel.
  • No make-up over the injection points for 12 hours.
  • No retinol, vitamin C or acids for 24 hours.
  • No sauna, hot bath or jacuzzi for 24 hours.
  • No exercise or anything that makes you sweat for 24 hours.
  • Stay out of direct sun for 24 hours, then use a broad spectrum SPF 50 with 5 star UVA protection.

A summary. Dr Sultan emails a full written aftercare sheet after your procedure.

Same day
Small raised areas. Most people carry on as normal.
12 to 48 hours
The raised areas have gone.
Weeks
Collagen starts to build. Nothing dramatic happens on day one.
Months
The result develops slowly and holds.
12 to 18 months
Typical duration before repeating.

What Radiesse is used for

Sagging skin and laxity
Whether loose skin can be tightened without surgery depends almost entirely on how much elasticity is left in it. That is the first thing he assesses.
Dull and dehydrated skin
Skin quality is its own problem. Nothing about your shape needs to change for skin to look better than it does.
Ageing hands
Hands give age away faster than faces do, and they are treated far less often. Usually both volume and skin quality are involved.

Treatments that work with Radiesse

Sculptra
The other collagen stimulator, placed deeper for volume.
hand rejuvenation
One of the treatments used on the back of the hand.
Profhilo
Skin quality, with a shorter wait for the result.

Please read This page describes Radiesse in general terms. It is not medical advice and it is not a diagnosis. Whether Radiesse is right for you can only be decided by Dr Sultan after he has examined you. Every procedure carries risks, and he goes through the ones relevant to you at your consultation. If you are unwell, or you are under the care of another doctor, tell him before you book.
