What lip filler does
Lip refresh uses micro-needling to deliver vitamins and hyaluronic acid into the skin of the lip. It improves texture rather than size.

Is lip filler right for you?
Lips swell more than anywhere else on the face. Whatever you see on the day is not the result. Book at least two weeks before anything you care about.
It usually suits
- Lips that have thinned, or were always thin
- An uneven lip you want balanced
- Fine lines around the mouth you want softened
- You want a small change rather than a visible one
It is the wrong treatment if
- You have a big event inside two weeks
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You want a result that will obviously read as filler
What to expect
- 01Before you arrive
- Stop acids, retinol, vitamin C and scrubs a week beforehand. If you take blood thinners, including aspirin or ibuprofen, ask your own doctor whether you can pause them.
- 02The consultation
- He goes through your medical history and what is bothering you, then photographs the area.
- 03The plan
- He tells you what the treatment will do and what it will not, before anything is injected.
- 04Numbing
- Numbing cream on the lips, left to work. The filler itself also carries local anaesthetic.
- 05The injections
- About 30 minutes, using the smallest needles available. He works in small amounts.
- 06Straight after
- Swollen, and possibly bruised. Small bumps at the injection points settle within hours.
- Use a plain lip moisturiser. Nothing active, nothing scented.
- Do not touch or massage the treated area. Pressing on it can move the product.
- Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours. Lukewarm water, air dry, no towel.
- No make-up over the injection points for 12 hours.
- No retinol, vitamin C or acids for 24 hours.
- No sauna, hot bath or jacuzzi for 24 hours.
- No exercise or anything that makes you sweat for 24 hours.
- Stay out of direct sun for 24 hours, then use a broad spectrum SPF 50 with 5 star UVA protection.
A summary. Dr Sultan emails a full written aftercare sheet after your procedure.
- Same day
- Noticeably swollen. This is normal and is not the result.
- 24 to 72 hours
- The swelling comes down. Bruising, if you have it, may look worse on day two than day one.
- 3 to 5 days
- The shape starts to settle.
- 10 to 12 days
- Settled. This is what you have actually bought.
- 6 to 9 months
- The filler is absorbed. Your own tissue is unchanged underneath.
What lip filler is used for
- Thin or lined lips
- Adding shape and adding hydration are two different treatments. Most people asking for lip filler want less of it than they think.
